Orakei Korako: ‘the hidden valley’ Another Thermal Park is available at ‘the hidden valley’, Orakei Korako. Hot springs, geysers and native bush offer visitors a magical experience featuring beautiful walks, stunning views and a rare geothermal cave.

Wairakei Terraces In a cooperative endeavour, local Maori and power suppliers have worked together to rebuild the Wairakei Terraces and geysers that were destroyed in the building of the geothermal power station in the 1950’s.

The area now features the redeveloping Wairakei Terraces’, an animal park and Maori treasures. Tours of the geothermal area, geysers and mud pools are offered and the Terraces feature a night time cultural experience including a Maori Powhiri (welcome), Wero (Challenge) village tour and traditional Maori Hangi (meal) and concert.
